ActiveCampaign Lite or Plus [Which Should You Choose?]

Trying to choose between the ActiveCampaign lite or Plus plans?

Well…

Do you use a phone when you sell?

“What does a phone have to do with it?”, you might be thinking!

That’s exactly what I’m going to cover in this post and by the end, I’m confident you’ll be able to figure out which plan is right for you.

Alright…

Without knowing your personal circumstances, there’s no way I can tell you which is the right choice for you but I can share the 3 questions I ask every new client to help them decide.

My 3 Questions For Choosing The Right Plan

(To make the best choice you need to consider more than just the list of features)

1. Do you have at least one manual step in your sales process?

Usually, I find it’s possible to automate much more of a sales process than most businesses realize but one example of something you can’t fully automate is if you have a phone call at some point during your sales process.

You can automate the process leading up to the sales call with things such as an automated booking calendar which eliminates the need for communication back and forth, trying to find a mutually beneficial time.

You can automate all sorts of things based on the outcome of that sales call whether it’s an automated down-sell process for prospects that don’t meet your qualifying criteria or the on-boarding of a client after a successful call.

But the call itself, the interpretation of the information you receive during the call and moving the contact onto the next logical step in your sales process will be a manual step.

If you answer yes to this question, then this is one consideration that makes the Plus Plan more valuable because you get a clear visual representation of where every lead is sitting in your sales process.

Without this visual pipeline of leads, there will almost certainly be leads who reach the manual step in your process only to be completely forgotten about and not be able to move on to the next step.

As you generate more leads, the risk of losing leads increases!

With the Plus plan pipeline, moving these leads to the next step is as simple as deciding which step is the most logical and dragging the contact deal to wherever they need to go.

If there are automated things that need to happen after this point, you can trigger the automation to start as soon as a contact is moved to this specific stage in the pipeline.

2. Do you have at least 1 sales rep?

If you’re a solopreneur, stuck in the grind of doing everything yourself (including your own sales calls), that’s not what I’m talking about…

I’m talking about a dedicated sales rep, or at very least someone in your business who takes on the sales role among other things.

If you’re on your own, you could find an acceptable compromise for managing your leads without a C.R.M. (Customer relationship management software).

If someone else is managing your leads, it’s only a matter of time until you’re having an unpleasant discussion about what the #*&% has gone wrong and why there are so many leads not being followed up!

So if your answer is yes to having a sales rep and manual steps in your sales process, then I see it as a huge advantage to have the pipeline feature from the Plus Plan.

Having this visual overview of everything that’s happening in your sales process allows you to quickly identify things like…

For example, if you see leads piling up in a pipeline stage and none of them moving onto to the next stage which you know is automated, there could be something broken.

The visual overview of the leads in your sales funnel that ActiveCampaign calls a “pipeline” is just one feature of their CRM which is available on the Plus Plan.

There are loads of other really cool features in their CRM such as the ability to assign dollar values to each lead.  This means you will not only be able to see the number of leads in each stage of your sales process, you will also be able to see the total value of all potential sales sitting in each stage of your pipeline as well.

There are lots more features that I haven’t mentioned and the reason I’m not going to bother covering all the features in detail is because in my opinion…

The idea of having a visual overview where you can see every lead in your process in seconds is by far the biggest selling point of the Plus Plan.

If you don’t see the value in that… Well… I don’t think you’re going to be overly interested in the other features anyway.

If you have multiple sales reps...

In my opinion, having access to these benefits is critical and if I were you, I’d find a way to make sure you can say yes to the next question!

3. Do you understand and have the ability to implement the Plus Plan features?

Take a look at all the additional features from the Plus Plan that aren’t included in the Lite Plan.

  • Do you understand what they are?
  • Do you know how to implement them and have the ability to implement them?
  • If not, do you have the time and willingness to learn?
  • If not, do you have the budget to pay someone else to do it for you?

If you can’t answer yes to at least one of these questions for each of the major additional features of the Plus plan, there really is no point in spending the extra money.

A Ferrari is no more useful than a golf buggy if you are driving around a golf course with a 10km/h speed limit. All you really are is big red target practice!

Hopefully this has helped you come to a decision.  I made the switch from Infusionsoft to ActiveCampaign back in 2014 and I can say I’m still happy with my decision.
